2026 Chinese New Year Celebration & Seminars ~ February 21st 2026
Shifu Cheyenne LaChapelle demonstrates a Kung Fu Fan technique.
Saturday February 21st, students of Metrowest Kung Fu and our parent school New England Kung Fu met on Cape Cod to train and to celebrate the Year of the Fire Horse.
The Lunar New Year is the biggest holiday in China - like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years rolled into one two-week holiday - so it’s appropriate that Kung Fu schools pull out all the stops. It is also my personal favorite Kung Fu event of the year. I love having our extended Kung Fu family (and friends) coming together to train hard and share good times together; both creating and sharing memories.
Back when we used to travel down to Virginia for Chinese New Year, we would take advantage of the warmer climate to do “Tai Chi on the Beach”, a truly beautiful and peaceful event that we all enjoyed so much, we decided to continue it in spite of the New England winter weather.
Next, Shifu Gary ran a workshop called “Breathing Life into Qigong” which was an introduction to qigong practice and terminology. Then, Shifu Cheyenne LaChapelle taught a White Lotus style fan form. Finally, Shifu Gary and Shifu Cheyenne together taught the two-person version of one of our beginner Huáquán 华拳 forms.
Then, of course, we all ate a ton of Chinese food! It was great fun training and socializing together. Thank you to Shifu Gary and Shifu Cheyenne for the fun weekend. Photos are available on our SmugMug and Facebook pages.
