Hope you are all still having a fantastic summer! While I'm enjoying it, I'm looking forward to fall - not only because it's my favorite season, but also because MDC will have its MaynardFest debut on Sat. October 3rd! Stay tuned for more info!
This is the final month of the Felixology summer raffle! As a reminder, each month (June, July and August), I am raffling off *5*
10% discount cards to Felixology, one of the coolest stores in the "Greater Maynard Metro Area"! The raffle is included with admission to MDC! For the past few months, Felixology has been the target of online defamatory attacks from a very small but very loud group of bigots who are pro-book banning and anti-free speech. So please consider coming to MDC this summer to help drum up business - pun fully intended - for Felixology! ️ And if you won a raffle at the June or July MDC, please use it before the 23rd - it will not only help Felixology, but also save trees (by reusing the discount cards)!
Finally, some of you were asking me about the Wula Drum & Dance Retreat, which is just a little over a month away! I went last year (for the first time), and it was one of the most amazing experiences I had all year. Location: Metrowest Kung Fu - 69 Main Street, Maynard, MA
Cost: $5/adult (cash or Venmo), free for kids 12 and under
Now for the nitty gritty!
● The MDC is a freestyle drum & dance event. No hand-drum or dance experience is required, and all skill levels are welcome!
● There is ample (and free) street parking, as well as the "basin" parking lot flanked by Summer, Nason and Main Streets.
● Kids are absolutely welcome to attend (and participate!) but require adult supervision.
● There will be a wide selection of percussive instruments for anyone who needs to borrow, but you're encouraged to bring your own if you have them. Didgeridoos, Native American flutes, rhythm bones, etc. are also welcome.
● Folding chairs and stools will be available, but you may want to bring your own for maximum comfort.
● You can arrive at any time (doors will open at 1:45pm) and leave when you must.
● There will be a short social/snack break in the middle. Water and snacks will be provided, though you are welcome to bring something to share if you'd like.
● As always, please remember to remove your street shoes upon entering, in respect to the guan which Eliot has so graciously been letting us use for the MDC.
