Maynard Drum Circle

From event organizer Betsey Gardstein:

Hello fellow drummers, dancers, and friends!

Wow - summer has just flown by, and the August MDC has snuck up on us!  You'll notice that the time is slightly different from normal.  We will need to end the drum circle at 4:00** (more about this below!) instead of 4:30, so I'm opening the doors at 1:45 so we can actually get started by 2:00.

As always, please remember to remove your street shoes upon entering, in respect to the guan which Eliot has so graciously been letting us use for the MDC.

Now for the details!

● The MDC is a freestyle drum & dance event.  No hand-drum or dance experience is required, and all skill levels are welcome!

● The cost is $5 per adult.  Kids 12 and under are free, but require adult supervision.  Accepted forms of payment are cash or Venmo.

● There is ample street parking, as well as the "basin" parking lot flanked by Summer, Nason and Main Steeets.  Since it's a Sunday, parking is free.

● There will be a few percussive instruments for anyone who needs to borrow, but you're encouraged to bring your own if you have them.  Didgeridoos and Native American flutes are also welcome.

● Several folding chairs and stools will be available, but you may want to bring your own for maximum comfort.

● There will be a short social/snack break in the middle.  You can arrive at any time (once doors open at 1:45pm) and leave when you must.

● Water, summery non-alcs, and snacks will be provided, though you are welcome to bring something to share if you'd like.

● I will be raffling off something drum-related, TBD - you'll just have to come to the drum circle to find out!

Feel free to forward this email to anyone who you think would be interested in participating!  You can also find this event on Facebook (even if you don't have a FB account) at this link: https://www.facebook.com/share/1SUkVsNB9v/ - please share widely!  RSVPs are encouraged so that I have a rough idea of how many people are coming.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me (MaynardDrumCircle at gmail dot com) with any questions.

I hope to see lots of familiar faces on Sunday, and some new ones too!

Thanks!

~Betsey

**The reason we are ending the MDC at 4pm is so we can have a short "rehearsal" with whomever is interested in demo'ing some African rhythms at the most amazing bookstore, Felixology (a couple of blocks away) from 4:30-5pm.  (They are hosting Africa Fest, with various events throughout the day.)  The demo will be geared toward kids, and we will let them try out some drums and other percussive instruments, so it should be a really fun time! We will be playing rhythms like kakilambe, fanga, and kuku,  If you are interested in participating, please let me know!  All participants will receive a 20% discount at the store.
