The Ideal Student
Most responsibilities of the Kung Fu student are common sense (paying fees on time, etc,) but some are easily overlooked by many students. It is the simple things in life that are actually the hardest to master, since they are generally overlooked or taken for granted.
Let's start with the ideal student:
1. She is always fully-dressed in her Kung Fu uniform (school t-shirt, Kung Fu pants, sash, and indoor training shoes.)
2. His uniform is always clean, neat, and doesn't smell. (It doesn't look like he pulled it out of the sock drawer right before class.)
3. Her uniform is tucked in, and has no holes, tears, rips, or worn spots. She displays pride in what she does and how she looks, even though it may seem cool to wear her favorite Kung Fu pants that are worn out at the knees because of how hard she has worked.
4. He does not come late for class, and if for some reason he does, he waits patiently at the edge of the floor for the instructor's cue to enter the class. If he is more than fifteen minutes late, he knows that he must wait for the next class.
5. She never bothers the instructor with the reasons for her tardiness, unless the instructor asks.
6. He never speaks out of turn and only speaks when he is spoken to.
7. She never interrupts the class by asking questions unless addressed by the instructor to do so.
8. He always counts clearly and loudly to encourage all new students to do the same.
9. She always has a positive outlooks and leaves her problems at the door. If the problem persists and interferes with her training, then she asks the instructor (at the instructor's convenience) for a private moment to explain what is going on.
10. He always slows down enough for the newest student to follow, and does not try to prove how much better he is than other students.
11. She is never negative, either towards herself or any student, and she never allows any of her classmates to be negative towards themselves, the school, or the instructors.
12. He always encourages and reminds his classmates what do do before and after class.
New students learn by example...are you setting an ideal example for the newest members of your Kung Fu family?
