August 2016 Newsletter & Announcements
Happy August everyone!
Check out our monthly newsletter below! Here a few more details about the events happening in our school in the coming months:
Kick-a-Thon: Tuesday August 2nd, 6:30PM
Together, Sihing Eliot and Tom raised nearly $500! The kicks will be done during the adult Kung Fu class on Tuesday. In response to the tragic shooting in Orlando on June 12th, all proceeds will be donated to the Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity.
Adult Kung Fu Ranking with Sifu Gary: Saturday August 13th, 12:00PM
Ranking will take place instead of regular Adult Kung Fu class, double sticks, and sparring. Kids Kung Fu, yoga, and Tai Chi will run as scheduled. Students who are not ranking are still welcome to attend the class. Students are encouraged to invite family and friends to watch!
Tai Chi Brunch: Sunday August 14th, 10:00AM-12:00PM
This event is free and open to the public; all are welcome to stop in and try their hands at Tai Chi. Please bring a breakfast dish to share. We will have guests from other Tai Chi schools in the area to share their experience with us as well. No experience is necessary, so it's a great event for beginners!
In-House Tournament: Saturday August 20th, 8:00AM-1:00PM
Open to all Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Tae Kwon Do students from the Maynard and Worcester schools. Students are strongly encouraged to participate, as this is the first tournament we have ever hosted at either of our schools. It is only $40 to preregister. It is $50 to register the day of the tournament, cash only. These are VERY inexpensive prices for a tournament, even a small one! Since the tournament is only open to our own organization, we know it will be a very friendly and relaxed environment; ideal for students who are nervous or are competing for the first time. Tai Chi divisions will go first, then kids, then teens and adults. Tai Chi registration is from 8:00AM-8:30AM. Kung Fu registration is from 9:30AM-10:00AM. Volunteers are needed for score-keeping and time-keeping. No martial arts experience is necessary; these are great jobs for parents and spouses of students!
Sifu Gary's Birthday
The two biggest events in the Kung Fu year are Chinese New Year and your teacher's birthday! Sifu Gary's birthday is Friday August 19th. To celebrate his birthday and to show gratitude for the support he has shown our school, we will be taking him out to dinner at Red Ginger in Stow after the tournament concludes on Saturday. All students and family members are welcome to attend.
Kids Kung Fu Ranking with Sifu Gary: Monday September 26th, 5:30PM-6:30PM
Note that this ranking is on a Monday, not a Saturday! As with the adult ranking, students who are not ranking are still welcome to attend the class, and family and friends are encouraged to come show support. Sign-offs should be completed and sash fees ($35) should be paid by September 12th.
Remember, the greatest thanks you can give to the school is a new student. If you have not already, please write a positive review on our Google page, our Yelp page, our Facebook page, or preferably, all three!
As always, please feel free to contact Sihing Eliot should you have any questions or concerns!
